Green (31-4, 27 KO) was dominated by Tarver on July 20, dropping his lightly-regarded IBO title via stoppage after nine rounds. He was never truly in the fight save for a single round where his heavy hands did seem to bother Tarver, but other than that he was just thoroughly outboxed.
Wlodarczyk (45-2-1, 32 KO) was in negotiations recently to face fellow titlist Marco Huck, but those talks fell apart. The 29-year-old Pole has looked a bit off in recent fights against fringe contenders Jason Robinson and Francisco Palacios. Outside of a single fight in Italy, Wlodarczyk has not fought outside of Poland since 2005, and he’s fought away from his home country just four times in his career.
Krzysztof “Diablo” Włodarczyk (born September 19, 1981) in Warsaw, Poland is a professional Polish boxer, the current WBC Cruiserweight World champion and the former IBF Cruiserweight World champion. He won the IBF title on November 25, 2006 with a split decision over Steve Cunningham. He lost his title to Cunningham in a rematch on May 26, 2007. He fought Giacobbe Fragomeni on May 16, 2009 for the WBC Cruiserweight title. Włodarczyk knocked down his opponent during round 9 but the fight went to a draw after twelve rounds. On 15 May 2010 Włodarczyk fought Giacobbe Fragomeni again for the vacant WBC cruiserweight title and defeated him with a TKO in round 8. In September 2010 Włodarczyk defended his title against Jason Robinson. In November 2011 he will defend his title against former IBO Cruiserweight Champion Danny Green.
Born in Perth, Western Australia, Green began as an amateur boxer. Success at the State Amateur level led to him being selected for an Australian Institute of Sport scholarship to prepare for 1998 Commonwealth Games and the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney. Green qualified for the Olympic team, stopping Brazilian Laudelino Barros in the fourth and final round of his first bout. However, Green was technically knocked out in the later rounds of his bout against Russian Alexander Lebziak due to Lebziak holding a points advantage that was seen to be too great for Green to overcome – a regulatory circumstance typically viewed in Olympic boxing as an indication that one fighter is outclassed by the other – boxing fights within Olympic contests (unlike professional boxing) are often stopped if and when when a fighter is deemed to be so significantly behind on points that the liklihood of him recovering the disadvantage and being successful is seen to be marginal. In these circumstances that are defined by a set threshold margin between the points each boxer attains throughout the bout, due to health and safety concerns the fight is stopped if one boxer has a points lead that is equal to or greater than the set threshold. After the bout was stopped for these purposes and because Alexander Lebziak attained such a points lead, Green claimed his hand was broken and spoke of the fight in terms that attributed the loss to his broken hand. However, right from the start of the contest and throughout the entire bout Lebziak was noticably dominant and Green sustained what many believed to be facial injuries from Lebziak’s punches. Lebziak was an excellent Russian boxer and he then went on to claim the Olympic Gold Medal.
